Liverpool Citizens Support Scheme

Liverpool City Council (LCC) has a service called Liverpool Citizens Support Scheme to help vulnerable people in urgent need. This replaces Community Care Grants and Crisis Loans which were abolished on 31 March 2013 as part of the Government’s Welfare Reforms.

The support will be provided through the following two ways depending on your circumstance:

  • Urgent Need Award – this may be provided to cover costs for food, help with emergency travel costs or help out in other crisis situations
  • Home Needs Award – this may be provided to people who need help with furniture because they have been in long term care, left prison or had to move home due to domestic abuse

Who is likely to be eligible for support?
To be eligible for help you must be aged 16 or over and be on a low income. This would normally mean you will be getting one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Employment and Support Allowance
  • Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit only).

If you think you would be eligible for help you can apply online or call 0151 233 3053.
