TIMELAPSE: The Marketplace springs to life in 37 seconds! But it took a lot longer to create the brand for our new South Liverpool community shop.
The shop, which is due to open soon on Western Avenue in Speke, will sell fresh food and essential household goods all at a fair price for SLH tenants who are on a low income.
Over £1 million people in the UK accessed local foodbanks in 2015-16, an increase in 2% on the previous year according to the latest figures released by poverty and hunger charity Trussell Trust. Whilst this is an invaluable facility for the local community, it only acts as a short-term solution for those in need.
The community shop will act as an intermediary between the foodbank and the large supermarkets and, once open, customers will be able to shop there regularly at prices they can afford.
Liverpool designers NONCONFORM and Envision Media helped us transform the vacant shop into a space befitting such an innovative community project, staffed by local volunteers and run on a membership basis.
