South Liverpool Homes launches Volunteer Academy

Published: 10 January 2017

South Liverpool Homes (SLH) has launched an exciting training programme for people interested in volunteering.

The Volunteer Academy, delivered in partnership with The Whitechapel Centre, The Reader and Merseytravel, will give people new skills to help them feel confident in applying for volunteer roles in the community.

“We’re excited to be working with South Liverpool Homes, Merseytravel and the innovative The Reader group in Calderstones Park to deliver this exciting opportunity,” said project manager Paula Lever of The Whitechapel Centre.

“Many people want to give something back to their communities but lack the confidence to make that first step. We hope the Volunteer Academy will make it easier for people to get involved and enjoy the many benefits of volunteering.”

Here are some of the things our Volunteer Academy can help you with:

  • Build your confidence
  • Gain new skills
  • Meet new people
  • Improve your job prospects
  • Gain valuable work experience
  • Make a positive difference to your community
  • Improve your health and wellbeing
  • Have fun

How it works

The academy will take place over six weeks for just a few hours per week at Parklands in Speke. Once you have completed the programme we will put you in touch with local organisations who are recruiting volunteers, including our own community shop, The Market Place.

Everyone who completes the course will receive a certificate of completion at the Volunteer Academy graduation ceremony.
