An Executive Director at a South Liverpool Homes (SLH) spent the morning as a Business Administration Apprentice this week to mark National Apprenticeship Week (9-13th March).
South Liverpool Homes’ Director of Business Assurance, Claire Ryan, swapped jobs with 18 year old apprentice Beth Hayes. She took over the apprentice’s work space and carried out gas servicing satisfaction calls, booked in gardening appointments and set up direct debits… with Beth guiding her all the way!
Beth then spent time in the Director’s hot seat where she discussed upcoming projects and had a sneak preview of the organisation’s new Corporate Plan. She then went onto chair SLH’s Value for Money forum, Every Penny Counts, making sure everyone kept to the agenda and keeping everyone in check.
“I had a brilliant day” said Beth. “I got a little taste of what it’s like being a Director at SLH which was great, but I’m looking forward to going back to my usual role tomorrow as I really love what I do.”
“Chairing a meeting was a great experience, especially as members of the SLH leadership team were present, but they were all really supportive and I have a better understanding of how meetings like that work now.”
Claire Ryan also enjoyed the job swap, “Beth works really hard and it was a privilege and a pleasure to get an insight into the work she does and to be able to spend time with her team. Investing in young people in the area is a key priority for us; there is so much potential in our local communities and our apprenticeship programme allows us to tap into this.”
SLH currently employs 7 apprentices across the Group and has committed to employing a further 9 apprentices over the next 12 months.
