South Liverpool Homes (SLH) has recently recruited four new Ground Maintenance trainees to work for the housing association’s Gardening Services team.
The four trainees, Kieron, Jordon, Nathan and Matthew are all from the South Liverpool area and accessed the traineeships through South Liverpool Homes’ Reach employability hub, based at Parklands Library Speke.
The new team members will not only support the Gardening Service but will work alongside South Liverpool Homes’ Environmental Team, gaining valuable experience in equipment care and ground maintenance across the housing association’s estates.
“Traineeships are really important at SLH,” said Facilities Manager Tommy Nolan, who will oversee the trainees’ progress. “Traineeships are the first step towards paid employment, equipping young people with the skills and experience to move forward onto apprenticeships.
“Our Reach hub in Speke has been instrumental in connecting local people with opportunities both in SLH and other local employers and I’d urge anyone looking to improve their job prospects to drop into the Library and speak to the Reach team.”
Keiron, Jordon, Nathan and Matthew will also be attending Rocket Training to gain an NVQ Level 2 in ground maintenance, so by the end of the 12 months they can move on with a credible qualification but most of all, take away valuable experience working as part of a team.
